In this Spreadsheet course, you'll learn to apply the unique tabular system of spreadsheets to enter, manage and process information in ways useful to you and your students. This self-paced module will teach you how to quickly and easily enter, format, sort and calculate data in a spreadsheet, as well as generate useful reports, charts and graphs. With your new knowledge of spreadsheet software, you'll be able to track student grades, attendance and other student performance data; visualize student progress with bar, pie or line charts; and efficiently manage all sorts of classroom data. Online instruction will be for Microsoft Excel, on both PC and Macintosh platforms. Those using software versions older than Excel 97 may experience some differences in interface and/or features.
Before starting this lesson, you should be able to open, close and save files; select sections with the mouse; cut, copy and paste; and download files from the course web site. You can get these skills in our Basic Computer Skills course. This course requires the ss_example file, which you can download and save to your hard drive by right-clicking (PC) or Option-clicking (Mac) here. From the menu that appears, select Save. You can also download the finished version in PDF format.
To meet the spreadsheet certification requirements, you must create one spreadsheet document that exhibits basic to proficient skills with this tool.
